ESRA has partnered with Spaceport America, the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport located in southern New Mexico, to offer academia and industry a unique opportunity to collaborate, compete and inspire the next generation of aerospace engineers and scientists. Beginning in 2017, ESRA's Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) will become the flagship activity of a new annual event called the Spaceport America Cup (SA Cup).
There are plans to build on the SA Cup, adding not only more college level events, but events for industry and even high schools. Although we will be focusing on the IREC portion this first year, there will be exciting new activities emerging as early as 2018.
There are plans to build on the SA Cup, adding not only more college level events, but events for industry and even high schools. Although we will be focusing on the IREC portion this first year, there will be exciting new activities emerging as early as 2018.
Event Dates & Participation
The First Annual SA Cup will be held 20-24 June 2017, with events held both in Las Cruces, NM and on the Spaceport America campus. Student teams interested in entering the 2017 IREC at the First Annual SA Cup should refer to the SA Cup Documents & Forms page for complete instructions on entry, rules, requirements, and expectations - beginning with the IREC Rules & Requirements Document. The competition entry fees are defined on the 2017 IREC Fees page. Information on lodging at the First Annual SA Cup is provided on the SA Cup Lodging page.
Although the "on-time" window for entry into the 2017 IREC has passed, teams are welcome to enter "late" into the competition. Teams entering late into the competition should accompany their submission with an email to the ESRA organization inbox (experimentalsoundingrocket@gmail.com) alerting us to check for the late entry.
Members of the public interested in attending the First Annual SA Cup should check out the Spaceport America Cup event website for general event information and other details.
