In accordance with Section 2.6.4 of the IREC Rules & Requirements Document, the following 26 Teams have been selected to present particular aspects of their project related work in the 2019 SA Cup Conference Podium Session. The two files attached are a consolidated list of their abstract submissions and the schedule presentations will occur on the conference day - including their location. Teams not selected may still be asked to participate in the Podium Session if extenuating circumstances prevent one of the selected teams from attending. All teams are required to participate in the SA Cup Conference Poster Session. Whether selected for inclusion in the Podium Session or not, we encourage all teams to participate in observing presentations which interest them, so they may both learn from and show support for their fellow teams.
Progress updates must be submitted by COB Monday Eastern Time.
This is the same excel file you submitted for your application into the event. Simply update it with the latest and greatest information. Prospective 2019 IREC Teams,
Thank you for your patience thus far as you wait to find out the teams accepted into this year’s competition. While we’d hoped to have this list for you today, an overwhelming number of applications and some uncontrollable circumstances among our volunteer force have set us back a day or two. We assure you we are finalizing the list a we speak and will have it posted for you by this coming weekend. Thank you again for your patience and your support for this unique event. – The ESRA Team Following mishaps which occurred at the 2018 TRA BALLS launch. The Tripoli Rocket Association (TRA) have issued a temporary moratorium on hosting Class III projects by unlicensed university students at it's launches. Although ESRA is not a chapter of TRA, and the SA Cup is not a TRA launch event, ESRA leadership have chosen to respect TRA's decision by deferring consideration of hosting any non-competing Class III demonstration flights at the 2019 SA Cup until after TRA conclude their investigation and publish new recommendations on this subject. ESRA leadership will likely have an opportunity to review these materials as they are drafted, and anticipate their publication sometime around the new year. This situation only impacts non-competing demonstration flights whose total installed impulse exceeds the FAA Class II Amateur Rocket Limitation Defined in Section 2.3 of the IREC Rules & Requirements Document (greater than 40,960 N-s), or whose predicted apogee exceeds 100,000 ft AGL. We regret the inconveniences we know this will cause, but expect our community to benefit from the experience in the long run. The lessons learned and guidance generated in this exercise should pave a clearer path forward which, if followed, will lead to greater confidence in and support for current and future university teams which carry out these ambitions responsibly.
Hello Potential 2019 IREC Teams,It is the time of year when it is starting to get cold outside, which means it is time to start thinking about launching rockets in the desert. The 2019 Spaceport America Cup will be held June 18th-22nd and there is lots to do to prepare. ESRA wants to let you know about the important dates for deliverables from students’ teams to participate in this year's competition.
